AREA INFORMATION Edinburgh Castle (2.1 miles / 3.3 km) - This ancient fortress has existed on Castle Hill since the 7th century and has been extensively altered over the centuries. Now a popular visitor attraction and partially occupied by the British Army.
National Gallery of Scotland (2.2 miles / 3.5 km) - An impressive mid-19th century building, home to Scotland's finest collection of European paintings and sculptures from Renaissance through to Post-Impressionist periods.
Royal Botanic Gardens (3.6 miles / 5.8 km) - Founded in 1670 and moved to its current location in 1820, this is the oldest botanic garden in Scotland. It contains examples of peat walls, rock gardens, Chinese hillside, alpines, glasshouses and Scottish heath and woodland gardens.
Rosslyn Chapel (4.5 miles / 7.2 km) - Built in 1446 and recently made famous by 'The Da Vinci Code'. Renown for its ornate beauty of its carvings and links to the Knights Templar. Only 15 minutes from hotel via public bus links.
TRAVEL INFORMATION By car:
- Follow signs for the city by-pass (south).
- Continue on the by-pass and exit at 'Straiton Junction' (A701, City Centre).
- Follow signs for city centre for 2.5 miles (4 km) through various sets of traffic lights.
- You will come to a large junction with 3 lanes. Take middle lane; the hotel is the 6th building on the right hand side.
Parking:
Parking is available on-site at the hotel.
By bus (from Waverley Railway Station, 2.2 miles / 3.5 km):
- Number 7 (to Ferniehill), number 8 (to Royal Infirmary) and number 49 (to Rosewell) can all be caught from North Bridge, which is located on the east side of Waverley Railway Station.
- Number 29 (to Gorebridge) and number 31 (to Bonnyrigg Toll) can both be caught from Princes Street, which is on the north side of Waverley Railway Station.
- For all buses, you will need to get off at 'Craigmillar Park'.
By air (from Edinburgh Airport, 13 miles / 21 km):
- Board the number 100 bus to Waverley Bridge.
- Follow directions from Waverley Railway Station, outlined above.
